How TalkToGov works

A quick explainer on what we do and how we pick officials to contact.

Questions or feedback?contact@talktogov.org

What TalkToGov does

  • Resolves your address to find the right jurisdiction (city, state, district).
  • Suggests the officials who have authority over your topic.
  • Drafts a concise message you can customize.
  • Send your message to the elected official based on your chosen mode of delivery.

How routing chooses officials

  1. We look at your topic and pick the level that controls it (local, state, federal).
  2. We prioritize offices with direct authority (e.g., mayor/governor for services, council/legislators for laws and budgets).
  3. If a category isn’t available for your address, we fall back to the nearest relevant offices we do have.
  4. Recommended tags show the primary matches; fallbacks are shown without the tag.

Coverage status

We currently cover 90% of federal and state issues, matching you with your U.S. senators, U.S. representative, and state legislators based on your district. We are actively expanding to local offices (city, county, agencies, school boards, and more) and will surface those as soon as they are ready.
